Pushover Notification Settings

This tutorial will guide you through the essential steps to set up Pushover notifications on your mobile devices for events such as authorization status changes, order placements, and bot stoppages.

In this tutorial, we'll demonstrate how to use Pushover to get notifications on your mobile devices. Pushover sending limit is approximately 10,000 notifications per month.

1. Register for a Pushover Account on Your Mobile Device

  1. On your mobile device, install the Pushover app.
  2. Launch the Pushover app and register for a new account using your email address and password.
  3. Once the account is created, you'll be prompted to assign a short name to your mobile device.
  4. You'll receive a 30-day free trial. After the trial, you must pay a one-time $5 fee for lifetime access to your Pushover account.

    It is a one-time payment. You won't need to pay monthly fees.

  5. You should receive a welcome email from Pushover. This email contains a link to verify your email address. Click the link to complete the verification of your account.
  6. Visit the Pushover Login page. Log in using your email address and password. You'll be redirected to your Pushover account page.
  7. On the top right of the page, you can see Your User Key. This is referred to as USER_KEY. Copy and save it. You'll need to use it when you configure BotiTrader later.
  8. On the top left of the page, you can test sending a message to your mobile device:
    • Device: Select the device by its short name.
    • Message: Enter any text in the message box.
    • Click "Send Notification".
    • You should receive the notification on your mobile device immediately.
    • If you don't receive the notification, double-check your welcome email to ensure your email address has been verified, then try again.

2. Create an Application in Your Pushover Account

  1. In your Pushover account page, scroll down to the bottom, and you will see the Your Applications section. Click the link named Create an Application/API Token, and you'll be redirected to the application creation page.
  2. Enter a name for the application, for example, "BotiTrader."
  3. Check the "Terms of Service" box.
  4. Click "Create Application". An application will be created, and you'll be directed to the application page.
  5. At the top of the application page, you'll see the API Token/Key. This is referred to as APP_TOKEN. Copy and save it. You'll need to use it when you configure BotiTrader later.

3. Configure BotiTrader

  1. Open the Main window of BotiTrader, click "Settings" in the main menu, and select "Pushover Notification".
  2. In the Pushover Notification Settings window, you'll see three sections:
    • Pushover Configuration
    • Check to Enable the Pushover Notification
  3. In the Pushover Configuration section, enter the following:
    • User Key: Paste the Your User Key copied from your Pushover Account page.
    • App Token: Paste the API Token/Key copied from your Pushover Application page.
  4. In the Check to Enable the Pushover Notification section, select the events for which you want to receive Pushover alerts. The available options include:
    • Authorization Status Change: Receive a Pushover notification when broker authorization succeeds or fails.
    • Manual Order Placed: Receive a Pushover notification when you manually place an order.
    • Bot Order Placed: Receive a Pushover notification when a bot places an order.
    • Bot Stopped: Receive a Pushover notification whenever a bot is stopped.

4. Test and Save Your Pushover Settings

  1. Click "Send a Test Pushover Notification" at the bottom of the Pushover settings window. If the setup is correct, a test Pushover notification will be sent to your mobile device.

If the test is failed, double-check to ensure you have entered the correct User Key and App Token. Additionally, verify that your 30-day free trial period has not expired. If it has expired, you will need to make a one-time $5 payment to gain lifetime access. Scroll down to the bottom of this tutorial to learn how to purchase lifetime access.

  1. Click "Save" at the bottom of the Pushover settings window to save your configuration.

5. (Optional) Set Up Pushover Notifications for a Specific Trading Bot

  1. Each bot in BotiTrader can have its own Pushover notification settings.
  2. In the Main window, locate the bots table on the right side. Double-click a bot to open the Bot Settings window.
  3. In the Bot Settings window, find the Notification Settings section on the left-hand side. By default, the "Use Global Settings" option is checked, meaning the bot will follow the global Pushover notification settings configured earlier.
  4. To configure unique notification settings for the bot:
    • Uncheck the "Use Global Settings" option.
    • Select the specific notifications you want to enable for this bot. These settings will override the global Pushover notification settings.

6. Purchase Lifetime Access to Pushover

Pushover offers a 30-day free trial. After that, you need to pay a one-time fee of $5 to get lifetime access. There are no monthly fees.

  1. On your mobile device, launch the Pushover app. Ensure you are logged in with your email and password.
  2. At the top right corner, tap the three dots icon and select Settings.
  3. In the Settings menu, locate the Purchase Pushover License section and tap it.
  4. You will be prompted to complete the purchase for lifetime access with a one-time payment of $5.
